On September 29, 1977, Andrew Joseph Semesco was born. As Andy grew older, he proved himself to be a very charismatic gentleman with an optimistic attitude that could not help but be contagious. Andy was an athlete, student, and scholar while in high school. After graduating with honors, he attended Florida State University. While attending college, he became an active member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, Beta chapter, serving as the new member educator in fall 1998. He was also a member of Scalp Hunters and the Florida State Athletic Booster Club.
On October 29, 1998, while in his third year of college, Andy was diagnosed with oral squamous cell carcinoma at the tongue's base. Over the next several months, he battled this life-threatening disease with courage and optimism that inspired all around him. On April 1, 1999, after spending four days in the hospital, Andy passed away. Andy was 21 years old. He left this earth with all of his family and friends by his side.
The Andrew J. Semesco Foundation is the fulfillment of a promise to Andy that we would do everything we could to help prevent this disease from affecting other people. We understand the importance of friendship and commitment, and we will always do our best to achieve our goals.
